On Friday, November 18, Ridgedale Athletic Dept. and Boosters will host the Winter Meet the Team 5:15pm and Chili Cook off 6pm. Please support the kids and these organizations. The HS Boys Basketball Team will also scrimmage GCC beginning at 6:30pm.

Good afternoon, Rocket families. This is Erika Bower, Superintendent of Ridgedale Local Schools, where our mission is to empower students to reach their full potential while focusing on learning, safety, partnerships with our community, and fiscal responsibility. Starting next week, I will be using a program called Thrillshare for my weekly one call. This system is part of our website communication package. I wanted to give you a heads up because you may notice some differences. The hope is that having our calls, emails, texts, and live feed all coming from the same system will improve our communication even more! There will be a booster meeting tomorrow, Monday, November 14, at 5:30pm in the Jr/Sr High Cafeteria. Check our website or app for all of the upcoming athletic events! Junior High basketball has scrimmages this week! This Friday, November 18, join us for our winter meet the team and chili supper starting at 5:15pm in the Jr/Sr High Cafeteria. Then, stay for the high school boys’ basketball scrimmage versus Grove City Christian starting at 6:30pm. On Saturday, check out the bowling team competing at Cooper’s Bowl in the morning and the girls’ basketball team taking on Cardington in the evening. Mark your calendars for Thanksgiving break! There is no school on Wednesday, November 23 through Friday, November 25. Enjoy this time with family and friends! As the weather continues to change and we have to make decisions about closings and delays, I wanted to remind you that you should receive a phone call, text, or email from the school; however, if you do not for some reason, you can also check our website or app along with local news and radio stations. In the event of a delay, there will be an alternative schedule for preschool known as Plan B. The morning class will be from 10am-noon, and the afternoon class will be from 1-3pm. In addition, there will be no morning Power Hours. In the event of a closing, there will be no Power Hours at all. Don’t forget to set your clocks back an hour on Sunday as Daylight Savings Time ends. Winter sports are kicking off! Be sure to check the website or app for all up-to-date information about basketball, bowling, and wrestling! Our pep band will be active, and our musical students will be prepping as well! We are excited to partner with OSUM for the GoBuck$ program! Students in 3rd-12th grade can earn up to $1,000 off tuition at OSUM by meeting attendance and achievement goals while at Ridgedale. This is a fantastic opportunity for our students! The National Honor Society at the high school is sponsoring a food drive starting next week through November 16. They will be collecting canned goods, boxed foods, non-perishable foods, personal hygiene items as well as baby care items. Thank you for supporting the Christmas Clearinghouse! Picture retakes for the jr/sr high are on Tuesday, November 1. There is a winter athletic parent meeting on Tuesday, November 1, at 6pm for jr/sr high, and winter sports pictures are scheduled for Thursday, November 3. 8th graders will be traveling to visit Tri Rivers, OSUM, and MTC on Friday, November 4. Just a reminder that breakfast is free for all students, but there is a fee for lunch. We are transitioning to fewer charges and providing alternative meals if a charge is needed to avoid lunch fees building up; however, if you need to apply for free or reduced lunch, you can find the application on our website or reach out to the school! The National Honor Society will be sponsoring a food drive to benefit families in Marion County through the Christmas Clearinghouse. We will be collecting canned goods (fruit, veggies, meats, pasta, soup), boxed foods (mac & cheese, instant potatoes, cake, brownie, biscuit or cookie mixes, pudding, Jello), non-perishable foods (peanut butter, dried beans, crackers, cereal, spaghetti sauce) and personal hygiene items (soap, shampoo, toothpaste, deodorant), and there is always a need for baby items (diapers, wipes, cereal). Please help us help others throughout the holiday season. The drive begins next week and items can be taken to your child's homeroom. Each classroom will have a box to collect our items. The drive ends on Nov 16, so please send what you can. Thank you for your continued support of our students and families!

Don’t forget that we now have before and after school programming focusing on students in grades 3-8 called Power Hours! This is part of the 21st Century Grant we were fortunate enough to receive. Hours of operation are from 6:30-8am before school and 3-5pm after school. We will focus on learning, safety, and innovation. This week is our last week to enroll for the first session, so be sure to reach out to Mrs. Weston for more details or check our website! We have an afterschool program for students in grades K-2 through another grant. Reach out for more information! Our Board of Education will hold our regular meeting tomorrow, Monday, October 24, at 6:30pm in the Board Office. The end of our first quarter is approaching quickly! It is October 28. Remember that you can check grades regularly through PowerSchool. Boo at the Barn is THIS Wednesday, October 26, from 5-7pm at Rick and JoAnn Fogle’s barn located at 2730 Harding Highway West. Enjoy this Trunk or Treat fun! Picture retakes for the elementary are this Tuesday, October 25 while the jr/sr high retakes are on Tuesday, November 1. Please remember that breakfast is free for all students, but there is a fee for lunches if your family does not qualify for free or reduced lunches. With that being said, we have great news! The heat is up and running in all K-5 classrooms! The preschool room is still having some difficulty so we will not have preschool tomorrow, but we will see all of our students in K-12 as usual tomorrow, October 20. With that in mind, and due to the inclement weather and unforeseen difficulties with the heating units at the elementary, there will be no school tomorrow, October 19, for students in grades PK-5. This means that the elementary Power Hours are also canceled. This does not affect the jr/sr high, so students in grades 6-12 will still have school. All staff will report to school as well. This message is to inform you that due to a driver shortage tomorrow, Tuesday, 10/18, the afternoon route for Bus 7 will be running about 45 minutes to an hour behind. In addition, Bus 8 will be running up to 30 minutes late. If you choose to make other arrangements for your child, be sure to notify the building or buildings so we can communicate the changes with all stakeholders. Youth basketball for 3rd grade boys and 4th, 5th, and 6th grade girls and boys will hold two more registration opportunities at the elementary on Oct 17, 5:30 PM – 7:00 PM and Oct 22, 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM. The cost is $30. See our website or app for more details. We have brand new 21st Century Grant programming called Power Hours! Students in grades 3-8 can join this opportunity before school from 6:30-8am and after school from 3-5pm. Check out the website for more details, or contact Melissa Weston using mweston@ridgedaleschools.org. Please take a moment to review all of the school dress code expectations with your child. Students are permitted to have holes or tears in their jeans or pants, however, no skin can show above the knee. In addition, shirts must cover the midriff, sagging pants are not permitted, and shorts and skirts should reach below the fingertips if hands are at their sides. Thank you for your help! Don’t forget that breakfast is free for all students; however, lunches are no longer free. This year, elementary lunches are $2.75 and jr/sr high lunches are $3.00. If you need to fill out an application for free or reduced lunch, you can find the application on our website. Please remember there is no school this Friday, October 21. Musical auditions will be held on Sunday, October 23rd from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the elementary music room. Sign-ups have already started on 10/13. I am calling with an exciting opportunity for students in grades 3-8. Enrollment is OPEN for Ridgedale's new POWER Hours! This is for grades 3-8 right now. Morning hours will run Monday-Friday 6:30-8, and afternoon hours will be Monday-Thursday 3-5. There are going to be some great things going on, like tutoring, yoga/SEL moments, enrichment activities, snacks and exercise, and most importantly, caring Ridgedale adults to invest in the participants! There is an enrollment form online on the website as well as on the Ridgedale app and we can't wait to get started!
