Good afternoon, Rocket families! This is Erika Bower, Superintendent of Ridgedale Local Schools, where our mission is to empower students to reach their full potential while focusing on learning, safety, partnerships with our community, and fiscal responsibility. As we think through the lens of safety, I wanted to share a great resource with you. It’s called Start Talking! Building a Healthier Ohio. You can sign up for tips for conversation starters as well as up to date information. A few tips from the Start Talking include the following: Be open and honest. Model what it looks like to share your feelings in a healthy way. Be direct. If you notice a change in your child or a sign that something is wrong, approach them about it in a loving, direct manner. Have regular conversations with your child. If you or your child have concerns regarding safety, don’t forget that our Stay Safe, Speak Up portal can be found on our website and on our app. In addition, we have a full time guidance counselor and social worker who can provide support. We also partner with Ohio Guidestone and Community Counseling and Wellness Center for further support for our students. Ohio State Testing for students in grades 3 and up continues this week. 8th grade students will take the science test on Monday. Students enrolled in government will take the government test on Tuesday. Grades 3-5 will take part 1 of the math test on Tuesday and part 2 of the math test on Wednesday. American history students will take their test on Wednesday. Biology students will take their test on Thursday. Students need to make sure they have their chromebooks charged and with them, especially on testing days. Please check the calendar on our website for all testing dates. The Harry Alexander Music Festival is this Tuesday at 7pm. This year, River Valley is hosting. The junior/senior prom will take place this Saturday at the Meeker Fellowship Hall from 8-11pm. This promises to be a fun night! We ask our students to be safe and make good choices as always! Summer Learning Programs are currently enrolling! Enrollment forms can be found on the Ridgedale website or the app. Make sure to turn your student's forms in as soon as possible because spots are limited and filling up fast! We are excited to have fun with students this summer while we work to push back the "summer slide!" Students currently in K-2 will enroll with the YMCA program. Students currently in 3rd-8th grade will enroll with Summer POWER Hours. We hope to see you there! Teacher Appreciation Week is May 1st through May 5th. Principal Appreciation Day is May 1st. School Lunch Hero Day is on May 5th. School Nurse Day is on May 10th. We sure appreciate ALL of our staff every day! The 8th Grade Breakfast will take place on May 17 from 8am-11am in the jr/sr high gym. Preschool graduation will be on May 18 for all preschoolers. They will meet in the PK room at noon with a graduation start time of 12:15pm. This will be an exciting day as our preschoolers will join our seniors for a clap out parade. Graduation takes place on Sunday, May 21, at 2pm. Preschool registration is still available for the 2023-24 school year. Information and applications are available on our website. Be sure to check our website or download the app to keep up to date with all news, athletics, and events! Thank you for all you do for our students, our staff, and our community! Make it a great week, and Go, Rockets!
